Graham Roberts believes Tariq Lamptey would be a fine target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer as they seek a new right-back.
The club appear braced for the potential exit of Serge Aurier, who has revealed that he hopes to take on a new challenge this summer.
Matt Doherty also enjoyed a tough season, ultimately falling out of favour under the management of Jose Mourinho after his move from Wolves.
Will Spurs appoint a manager before the Euros?
Yes
No
In total, he made just 13 starts in the Premier League, with a number of his displays characterised by errors.
Spurs are likely to need a right-back, as a result, if Aurier does leave, and Roberts believes that Lamptey, whom Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said he loved in a Tweet last year, would be an excellent signing because he can defend properly.
The 20-year-old has struggled with injury this season, missing the majority of the season with a hamstring problem, but he played in all nine of the club’s first nine games of the campaign.
He is valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt and has a contract with Brighton until 2025, meaning he would likely be a hugely expensive acquisition this summer.
Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Roberts said: “I like the lad, Lamptey, at Brighton, but I want somebody that can defend and not give silly free-kicks away and help his two centre-halves.”
