Newcastle United will break their wage structure over the coming months with a new deal for their Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
This is according to insider Graeme Bailey who has been speaking on the Loaded Mag YouTube channel about Guimaraes’ future on Tyneside.
Guimaraes has not even been at Newcastle for a year yet but the 25-year-old has made a big splash at St. James Park with a return of 12 goal involvements in his 33 appearances (via Transfermarkt).
Having made the move to the Premier League from Lyon, Guimaraes still has years remaining on his deal which is set to expire in 2026.
But Bailey believes the Brazilian is set to be rewarded with an improved deal which will increase his current wage of £120k-per-week at Newcastle.
When asked if Newcastle will break their wage structure, Bailey replied: “Short answer is yes. And I think you’ll see it in the next few months with Bruno’s new contract.”
TIF Thoughts on Bailey’s comments…
If Newcastle are to take their wage structure to the next level, then we do not think there is a player more deserving than Guimaraes given the effect he has had on Tyneside.
Is Bruno PIF's best signing?
Yes
No
Not only would Newcastle be rewarding one of their best players, but they would also be covering themselves with reported interest coming from Real Madrid in recent months.
Although Guimaraes has spoken about his happiness at Newcastle, putting him on an improved deal would mean the Toon could demand a higher fee if the player was to seek a move in the future.
