Transfer insider and journalist Dean Jones believes it might be time for West Ham to move on from manager David Moyes, amidst speculation he could leave the club this summer.
What’s the latest on David Moyes’ situation at West Ham?
Moyes arrived for a second spell in charge at West Ham in December 2019 after he had previously steered the club to safety in the 2017/18 season – taking over on a six month contract with the club in the relegation zone.
Since then, the 59-year-old has guided the Hammers to brilliant 6th and 7th place finishes in his two full seasons in the Premier League and last year reached the Europa League semi-final.
However, this season his side’s form has dropped off massively and the East London outfit have been embroiled in a relegation battle – only pulling away slightly recently and currently sitting 15th and four points from the drop-zone.
Their European form has again provided a bright spark as they face Belgian side Genk in the second leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final tomorrow night, but the Scotsman has been under relentless pressure as his side’s wretched league form has continued.
What has Jones said about Moyes’ future?
Speaking in an interview with This is Futbol, Jones stated his belief that this summer may be the logical time for West Ham and Moyes to part ways.
On Moyes’ future, the journalist said:
“If he wins the Europa Conference League it’s definitely a bonus and it’s a nice moment in the club’s history and for him – perhaps a caveat that helps him land his next job.
“But overall with West Ham set to move on from Declan Rice as well, it feels like a moment which they might just want to move on from and kind of have a bit of a reset.”
What’s next for David Moyes?
Whilst Moyes could still end his spell in East London by delivering a European trophy for the fans, it does feel like this summer is a natural time for him and the club to part ways.
The addition of signings like Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca last summer have clearly not worked with his style of play, and the club have not been able to build on their impressive league finishes over the past few years.
It would seem sensible for West Ham to bring in a new manager with fresh ideas to harness this changing squad and, with great thanks for all he has achieved, say goodbye to Moyes.
