Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter is set to launch a bid for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara after failing to take him to former side Swansea in January, according to TEAMtalk.

The football news outlet claim that the newly-appointed Seagulls boss is a big admirer of the Finnish international and failed to seal his signing for the Championship outfit in the winter window, but that he will return with a bid from his new club, who managed to stave off the threat of relegation from the Premier League, to secure his capture.

Kamara had signed a pre-contract deal with Rangers to join this summer but ended up moving to Ibrox in a transfer deal in January, playing 16 times for his new side.

Potter is also said to be keen on snapping up Kamara’s Ibrox teammate James Tavernier.

Opinion

Kamara has looked like a great signing for Rangers since his arrival in Glasgow, bringing some much needed mobility and dynamism into the midfield – something that his teammates in the centre of the pitch at Ibrox perhaps lack in comparison. To lose him after just six months would be bitterly disappointing but you can see why Potter thinks he would be a good fit in the Premier League. At 23, he has plenty of developing still to do and that potential will only be reached if he is playing at the highest possible level. Brighton are the sort of club who could prosper greatly from poaching the top talents from Scotland and it might be a battle for the Gers to convince him that moving to the English top flight is not right. If Brighton can guarantee regular game time then there is really no contest – at the end of the day the Seagulls can offer him significantly more money and improve his exposure for yet more international game time.
