Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the latest installment of the Here We Go podcast, where he revealed Eric Garcia’s move from Manchester City to Barcelona is ‘confirmed’.
The 20-year-old defender joined the Cityzens from Barca back in 2017 in a £900,000 deal as he searched for regular first-team opportunities.
Under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, Garcia has made 33 appearances for the Etihad Stadium outfit, impressing in 2019/20, where the youngster featured in six of City’s final seven Premier League fixtures.
However, his desire to return to his boyhood club has long been muted, and the Spain international has been limited to just 10 appearances throughout 2020/21 as a result.
Now though, it appears Garcia has got his wish and an imminent return to Barcelona is set to materialise over the summer once his current contract has expired, according to Romano.
He said: (2:54) “Yes, Eric Garcia will be the first signing, everything is confirmed. Many times we were hearing about a lot of problems. But it’s not like this. They just had to complete everything by the official part, but it was signed. The contract was signed since December.
“So, Eric always wanted to join Barcelona, and all the clubs were involved in the race like Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal no one, has always been all Barcelona. So, Eric will be the first signing, will be announced at the end of the season.”
TIF Thoughts on Garcia’s transfer…
Barcelona’s finances are in a dire state, so acquiring a talented youngster who knows their system and style of play inside out on a free transfer is a great bit of business for the Catalan giants.
With Gerard Pique deep into the twilight years of his career, Garcia could be the perfect player to take over the World Cup-winning centre-back’s mantle for years to come.
