Tottenham Hotspur target Sofyan Amrabat was lauded by Gary Neville following his incredible tackle on Kylian Mbappe.
Tottenham are back in the hunt to sign Amrabat after a previous move earlier in the year broke down, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The 26-year-old showed exactly why Spurs are continuing to chase him, as he put in another incredible performance from centre-midfield as Morocco’s fairytale World Cup run came to an end against France as they lost 2-0.
Morocco’s heart in the game and throughout the tournament was personified by Amrabat’s unerring challenge on the French star after Mbappe flew past one careering tackle before his rapid breakaway was then stopped by the Fiorentina ace.
Amrabat sprinted from 10 yards inside the French half neck-and-neck with the PSG flyer, before crunching in to win the ball back, earning him plaudits from Gary Neville.
“It’s absolutely brilliant,”
“Fearless challenge from Amrabat,” Neville said on commentary for ITV.
TIF Thoughts on the reaction to Amrabat’s tackle…
Although he leaves the tournament in which his midfield performances have dominated, Amrabat and his nation bow out after giving France a real scare following incredible victories over Belgium, Spain and Portugal to make history as the first-ever African side to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
It’s been his barnstorming and aggressive play all tournament which has earned him rave reviews from elsewhere, while he has played every minute of Morocco’s tournament to date – with a third-place play-off to come against Croatia, who they previously drew against in the group stage.
Hopefully, it won’t be the final time we regularly see him on our screens, as we feel he would be the perfect signing for Antonio Conte to help propel Spurs to the next level. With only four clean sheets in the league, Amrabat’s evident work rate could make all the difference as Spurs search for consistency in the second half of the campaign.
