Fabrizio Romano has claimed on the House of Champions YouTube channel that Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Sofyan Amrabat could be bought for £34m.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Amrabat earlier in the year but opted against moving for the Morocco international, which now looks to be a huge error given the performances he’s put in at the World Cup – although Spurs appear to have always kept tabs on the midfielder, as per reports in Italy.

Amrabat has come in for a lot of praise from people of countries he’s played against, including former Spain manager Luis Enrique, who labelled him ‘extraordinary‘. Meanwhile, after last night’s defeat, French president Emmanuel Macron said he was ‘the best midfielder of the tournament‘.

While some reports have claimed Fiorentina don’t wish to sell Amrabat next month, they could be tempted by a £34m bid, according to Romano.

He said: “After investing around €15m to sign him from Verona two years ago, now the player has a value of around €30-35m. They state in private that they want around €40m to sell Sofyan Amrabat.

No!

“So it’s true that there is interest from important clubs, including Liverpool, but at the moment there are no negotiations so there is no bid from Liverpool, no direct negotiations also on the player’s side.

“The player wanted to be quiet on the transfer market while he was at the World Cup because he wanted to focus on the pitch, but I’m sure that starting from next week, something will move.

“Fiorentina will try to keep the player. The plan for Fiorentina is to keep Amrabat until the end of the season and they’ll probably sell him in the summer, but let’s see if it’s going to be possible, because with €35-40m, I think they will sell him.”

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

Given how well Amrabat performed for Morocco at the World Cup, £34m would likely be a bargain for Spurs, but with the options in the centre of midfield on offer to Antonio Conte at present, it may not be a priority position.

However, it could well be a deal too good to turn down from Spurs’ point of view if the player is keen on a move and playing under Conte in the Champions League, although he would have to acknowledge that the bloated midfield is something he’d have to overcome.

It has been reported that other clubs are also interested in Amrabat, including Liverpool, and given their need for a central midfielder after Arthur Melo’s disastrous summer arrival, Spurs could well be in for a tough fight to land the Moroccan.
