Aston Villa podcaster Neil Dunworth has been sharing his praise for Villa right-back Ahmed Elmohamady and his performance during the Birmingham club’s recent 0-0 draw against Wolves in the Premier League.
This comes after Dunworth recently made an appearance on the latest episode of The Villa View Podcast where he reflected on the draw at Villa Park over the weekend.
On the subject of Elmohamady, who played the entire game against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, Dunworth had this to say about his display in the match. (3.57)
He said: “Ahmed Elmohamady led from the front I think at the start.
“He tackled aggressively, got in on top of Adama Traore and he continued that even into the second half as well and for somebody who would have been a perceived weak link against the pace on that right-hand side or Wolves’ left-hand side, I thought he had a pretty sterling game.”
Villa signed Elmohamady back in the 2017 summer transfer window from Championship side Hull City in a deal worth a reported fee of £990k.
Since then, the 33-year-old, who is currently valued at £1.8 million has made a total of 125 appearances for Dean Smith’s side across all competitions in which he has scored four goals and provided 17 assists in the process (per Transfermarkt).

Given how Elmohamady earned himself a solid match rating of 7.04/10 for his performance at the weekend, the highest of any outfield Villa player that played throughout the entire match, this backs up why Dunworth thought he had an excellent game against Wolves.

Also, with the Birmingham Mail saying the Egyptian was his “usual, reliable self” against Wolves and “did what was asked of him” when faced with Adama Traore as Dunworth mentioned, this also proves what a good game the defender had.
Moving forward, with Matty Cash still out injured, it seems likely, in our view, that Elmohamady will keep his place in the team for Villa’s next league game against Newcastle United on Friday night where he will undoubtedly be hoping he can put in another decent shift as he did against Wolves.
