Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that defender Yerry Mina is likely to leave Everton at the end of the season.
What’s the latest on Yerry Mina’s situation at Everton?
Mina joined Everton for £27.2m having enjoyed a fantastic 2018 World Cup, in which he became the first defender to score in his first three matches in the competition.
However, things have not worked out on Merseyside and the £120k-per-week he is collecting a week looks a huge drain on an already financially struggling club.
He has played precious little football for Everton over the past few seasons, missing 14 games with an ankle injury this campaign and 17 games through hamstring and thigh problems last term.
This, combined with a lack of form, has led to him making 13 appearances last season and just three this time around.
As per FootballTransfers, Mina is now worth just €12.8m (£11m), marking a decrease in value of around £16.2m since the former Barcelona defender arrived in England.
Now, with his contract expiring in the summer, it looks unlikely that either party will want to engage in talks over a new deal.
What did O’Rourke say about Mina?
On the Colombian’s future with the Toffees, O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT:
“I would say there’s a real good chance he will move on from Everton. He’s obviously out of contract in the summer and there have been no talks over a new deal.
“His time at Everton has been hit with injuries and he’s been injury prone, while he’s also missed a lot of games for Everton as well. I just think a parting of the ways will probably suit everybody involved here.”
What’s next for Yerry Mina?
It is clear that Mina is extremely unlikely to have a future at Goodison Park as he flatters to deceive even when fit and was criticised by pundit Noel Whelan late last year who said that “on most days, he looks average”.
Now, with his contract coming to an end, a return to South America seems the most likely outcome for the 39-cap international.
Reports coming out of Brazil claim that Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro would be interested in signing Mina on a free transfer whilst UOL have suggested that Palmeiras are keen on securing his services.
It is best for both player and club to put an end to an unsuccessful marriage, and a move back to South America would seem a sensible move for a player in desperate need to revive his career.
