Former England defender Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni following another impressive World Cup display.
The 22-year-old was outstanding as France beat Morocco 2-0 to reach a second consecutive World Cup final, and has been excellent for Real Madrid since his summer move from Monaco.
The midfielder moved to the Santiago Bernabeu for an astonishing €100m (£85.3m), but already looks to be justifying that fee as one of Europe’s best midfielders.
With Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante injured, Tchouameni has fully seized his opportunity to start for France ahead of Real Madrid teammate Eduardo Camavinga, and has been a standout player for his country.
Speaking on BBC’s coverage after the semi-final, Ferdinand highlighted Tchouameni’s qualities and praised his performances in Qatar.
He said (via @theMadridZone): “Listen, Tchouameni is a young kid, he’s going to make mistakes but he’s a superb talent, he produces moments out of nowhere, incredible player.
“Replacing Pogba in a France XI is not an easy task, but so far, Tchouaméni has been superb.
“Tchouameni showed why he plays for Real Madrid. He has the patience, talent, control, he has everything you need.”

With four interceptions, two key passes and three ground duels won, as per Sofascore, the Frenchman was a vital presence in the middle of the park against a resilient Morocco side.
When Real Madrid sold long-time servant Casemiro to Manchester United this summer, they did so in the knowledge that Tchouameni would be able to step up instantly, and we think he has already proved them right.
His stunning goal against England was arguably his best moment of the tournament, but his technique and composure in midfield is proving vital for France, and he will need to be at his best again if they are to win the trophy against Argentina.
