Everton duo Anthony Gordon and Amadou Onana are reportedly being eyed by fellow Premier League club Chelsea for a double transfer swoop.
The Merseyside club recently saw Frank Lampard depart from Goodison Park after seeing the Toffees lose 11 of their 20 league games this season.
With a week left until the January transfer window closes, Everton could well see two more important figures wave goodbye to the club.
In a recent Twitter post, journalist Matt Law had this to say on the matter.
He said: “Exclusive – Chelsea show interest in Everton duo Gordon and Onana in what promises to be a frantic end to the transfer window with bids expected for [Malo] Gusto and [Enzo] Fernandez.“
In an attached article he wrote for The Telegraph, Law added that the west London club are considering making moves to sign Gordon and Onana this month but allow them to stay at Everton on loan until the end of the season.
Chelsea were linked with a move for Gordon during the previous summer transfer window and were reportedly willing to pay £60m to sign him.
Who would you rather see Everton sell?
Anthony Gordon
Amadou Onana
Since then, the winger has scored three goals in 16 league appearances for the Toffees.
Then with Onana, Everton only signed the midfielder last summer from Lille in a deal worth £33m and have seen him score one goal and provide one assist in 18 league appearances.
Given how prominent the duo have been in the team this season, it’s safe to say that they would not want to lose them halfway through what has been an undeniably tough campaign.
However, if they’re able to sell the players to Chelsea this month but keep them at Goodison Park on loan until the end of the season, this could be a potentially suitable outcome for the Toffees, especially if it helps them from a financial point of view in terms of avoiding FFP issues as mentioned in the report.
