Journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that Celtic have held talks with Torino about the sale of Josip Juranovic.
It has been widely reported that Celtic could well look to sell the Croatia defender next month given that talks have stalled over a new contract with the Bhoys, while his World Cup performances will have only bumped up his price tag.
Juranovic has seen his name being linked with some of the top clubs across Europe including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Manchester United, but Taylor has claimed mid-table Serie A outfit Torino have already held talks with Celtic over potentially signing the 27-year-old.
Taylor revealed on his YouTube channel that Torino have made early progress in their approaches to Celtic when it comes to Juranovic.
He said: “You have Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic, who was excellent at the World Cup, really impressive – particularly against Brazil as he nullified Vinicius Jr.
Should Celtic sell Juranovic in January?
Yes!
No!
“Celtic have already held talks with Torino over a deal, but with all due respect to Torino, there’s talk clubs of a bigger stature could be interested as well – the likes of Atletico Madrid; even Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with the player because his contract is running down at Celtic. They’re going to probably have to cash in on a cut-price deal.”
TIF Thoughts on Juranovic’s future…
The Croatian’s performances at the World Cup earned him high praise from pundit Gary Neville, who labelled him ‘absolutely brilliant’ on ITV (via HITC), so it’s no surprise that some of Europe’s top clubs are now circling.
However, Celtic don’t appear to be losing too much on potentially having to sell Juranovic, as they’ve already recruited a new right-back from MLS in the form of Alistair Johnston, who could soon take Juranovic’s place.
Juranovic has only been with the Bhoys since the summer of 2021, but he may not see Glasgow as the best place to continue his development if bigger clubs come forward with concrete interest, although from the player’s perspective, we don’t think leaving Celtic for Torino would signal a step up in his career.
