Leeds United currently have a handful of players in their squad that are set to see their contracts expire at the end of the season.

One of those players is Adam Forshaw, although the club does have an option to extend his deal by a further year.

Having only made six senior appearances for Jesse Marsch’s side this season across the Premier League and the Carabao Cup, the likelihood of that extra year in his contract getting triggered is up in the air.

Should the Yorkshire club decide not to extend Forshaw’s deal and instead look to move him out of the club in the summer, one figure that has been linked with a move to Elland Road that we feel would be a suitable heir for the 31-year-old is Alex Scott.

At the age of 19, Scott has made 71 senior appearances for Bristol City, scoring four goals and delivering seven assists along the way.

Leeds United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with an easy one: Alan Smith

With only one player at City racking up more minutes in the Championship this season than Scott, this highlights just how important the youngster is for the team.

This season has also shown why the midfielder is so significant for the club and why he has warranted a regular place in the team.

From an attacking point of view, Scott has the second-highest number of key passes (26) at the club as well as the second-highest number of shot-creating actions (51).

Should Leeds trigger Adam Forshaw's contract extension option?

Then from a defensive standpoint, the midfielder has won more tackles (37) than any of his teammates, which backs up why he has been hailed as an “exceptional” player by Nigel Pearson.

Bearing in mind how Forshaw showed how useful he can be for the team in midfield last season by making 13 key passes and ending the campaign with a combined total of 72 tackles and interceptions, this highlights why Scott would be a dream long-term replacement for him.

Taking all of this into account, if an opportunity arises to sign the City star either this month or in the summer, Leeds should definitely do all they can to bring him to Elland Road.
