West Brom: Lewis Cox baffled by recent Baggies form

Journalist Lewis Cox has been left stunned following West Brom’s latest defeat.

The Express and Star writer was speaking from Deepdale as the Baggies slipped into the bottom three of the Championship table.

It was a third loss in four matches as Steve Bruce’s side lost 1-0 at Preston and leaves Albion without a win in any of their last seven Championship games.

Ahead of this weekend’s visit of Luton, Bruce has been placed under mounting pressure and amid the uncertainty, Cox can’t understand what is unfolding.

As posted on the Express and Star YouTube channel Cox stated:

“I feel for all the fans because they are wondering the same as us – what on earth is this?

“I don’t know who could have seen this coming. I think even the biggest Albion pessimist, would they have said relegation into October? I’m not sure they would.

“I mean, it’s a big few days – what Bruce has said after the game there that he accepts the decision if he’s sacked – which I thought was quite telling for the manager to say that probably for the first time.”

A tweet from journalist Chris Lepkowski perhaps pointed to where exactly the Baggies should be at.

He references how the Hawthorns outfit have the fifth-highest wage bill in the division and are floundering while QPR sit tenth in that regard yet just beat top of the table Shefflied United to break into the play-offs.

Lepkowski mentions that the Midlanders also have a wage bill £23m more than that of the R’s and insists it’s ‘time for change’.

With such expenditure Bruce should have the club competing at the upper echelons of the second tier but the reality is they are a farcry away from that level.

It’s hard to comprehend where the club are at as expressed by Cox and the idea of relegation is unfathomable but things could potentially get even worse.
