Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has tipped goalkeeper Allan McGregor to continue playing.
McGregor turned 40 in January and will see his contract expire at the end of the month with no clarity yet on his future.
He took to the field in a Rangers shirt for the 444th time last weekend against Hearts coming on as a substitute in the final minute of extra-time having been a prominent member of the side that made it all the way to the Europa League final this term.
The four-time Scottish Premiership winner has enjoyed two spells at Ibrox initially between 2001 and 2012 before returning in 2018 and even with 203 clean sheets in Glasgow, Ferguson still thinks he will carry on.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show Ferguson said:
“I would love him to stay, I still think he’s got it in him to play. I still think he’s a top goalkeeper. Listen Allan will make a decision himself and I think everybody will respect it. I think he mentioned he’s going to take a bit of time out, a week or two, go on holiday with the family, and then he will make his decision but I’m hopeful that he stays on another year.
“I’ve got an inkling that he’s going to stay.”

Despite being in the twilight of his career, McGregor has shown no signs of slowing down and was praised as “outstanding” in March by BT Sport pundit Derek McInnes after a huge penalty save against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League last-16.
He conceded an average of just one goal a game and considering the club faced talented sides like Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt that is a return not to be snubbed at.
Rangers will be hoping the stalwart stays on as does one of his former teammates but if not they are going to have a difficult task of finding a worthy successor and it will be a decision that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have to get right as the Blues look to regain the league title from rivals Celtic.
