Wolves journalist Liam Keen has slammed the idea of signing Francisco Trincao on a permanent deal this summer after the player had a disappointing season while on loan.
While Wolves boasted one of the best defences in the Premier League, finishing fifth for the least amount of goals conceded only behind Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, they did suffer upfront, only scoring 38 goals across the entire season with their highest goalscorer finishing as Raul Jimenez with six.
Players like Fabio Silva and Trincao were disappointing as the former finished without scoring a single Premier League goal, which has led to speculation over their futures as Wolves look certain to rebuild their side in the summer.
Keen appeared on the Express and Star Wolves Podcast this week and slammed the idea of signing the Trincao on a permanent deal as he looks set to rejoin Barcelona this summer, commenting that while he is a talented player it would not be worth the money.
He said: “For my money, I wouldn’t. I think he’s clearly a very talented player who has got a lot of things going for him, but he has not made it work this season. His age is on his side and look wolves may keep him and he may turn out to be a great player, but I just haven’t been convinced. So, for me, I wouldn’t do that deal.”
TIF Thoughts on Trincao’s season…
Wolves had a lot of problems getting the ball in the opposition’s net and signing Trincao to a permanent deal is not going to solve these problems. He only managed two goals in his 28 Premier League appearances and looked off the pace as Sofascore ranked him with a 6.8 average match rating.
As well as the poor match rating he only managed to average 1.1 shots, 0.5 key passes, 1.5 dribbles, 1.6 bad controls, 0.3 crosses and 0.6 long balls per game. (Whoscored)
Wolves are in desperate need of a prolific striker, much like Jimenez was just a few seasons ago. For me, Trincao is not the guy to solve these problems and they should be looking to spend his possible transfer fee on someone who can guarantee them goals rather than someone with potential.
