Manchester United could look to launch a summer transfer move for Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries.
The Red Devils had a rather busy January transfer window in terms of the new players they brought in such as Jack Butland, Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer, all on loan.
With the next transfer period on the way, it has been revealed that the Old Trafford outfit could look to bring in another player they apparently had their eyes on in January.
According to a recent report from Football Insider, United could look to secure a deal for Dumfries this summer after having an interest in him during the previous January transfer window.
The report also adds that Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the wing-back, who Inter could be persuaded into selling this summer.
It states: “Inter’s financial troubles mean they could be forced to accept a lower fee than they expected.
“It is believed a bid of between £40-50m could be enough to prise Dumfries away from the Serie A giants this summer.”
After scoring 16 goals and providing 20 assists in 124 appearances for PSV Eindhoven, the 26-year-old joined Inter back in the 2021 summer transfer window.
Since then, the Dutchman has made 76 appearances for the Italian club across all competitions, prior to their midweek Champions League clash against Porto, chipping in with seven goals and 13 assists.
This season has seen the Inter star show how much of a capable attacking figure he is by racking up the second-highest number of progressive carries (39) and crosses into the penalty area (11) at the club in Serie A.
Would Denzel Dumfries be a good signing for Man United?
Yes
No
Bearing in mind how United have eight clubs above them in the Premier League this season with more progressive carries (458), as well as having one of the lowest totals of crosses into the penalty area (43), it’s understandable why Ten Hag may want someone like Dumfries in his squad to help them improve in those areas.
In addition to that, the Netherlands international also has the third-highest total of goal-creating actions (10) and joint-third highest of shots on target (10) at Inter.
Described as an “intelligent” player by journalist Josh Bunting, Dumfries could certainly offer Ten Hag’s side an extra attacking dynamic should he find himself at United this summer.
