Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing RSC Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Following Dean Henderson’s exit from Old Trafford during the previous summer transfer period, the Red Devils brought in a new shot-stopper in January by securing a loan deal for Jack Butland until the end of the season.
With the next summer transfer window approaching, it has been revealed that Erik ten Hag has already got his eyes on securing a permanent deal for another goalkeeper.
According to a recent report from Het Laatste Nieuws (via Sport Witness) Ten Hag is interested in signing Verbruggen this summer, as are fellow Premier League club Liverpool.
After working his way through the youth ranks at NAC Breda, the 20-year-old joined Anderlecht during the 2020 summer transfer window.
Since then, the Dutchman has made 24 senior appearances for his current club across all competitions, prior to their league match against OH Leuven, keeping seven clean sheets along the way.
Across his 12 league game this season, the goalkeeper has faced 56 shots on target, saving 43 of them, which has left him with the highest save percentage (76.8%) in the division.
His overall performances in the Belgian league have earned the shot-stopper a season rating of 6.98/10 from WhoScored, making him the third-highest rated player at Anderlecht.
Do Man United need to sign a new goalkeeper this summer?
Yes
No
In addition to that, his recent performance in Anderlecht’s 1-0 win over Villarreal in the Europa League, during which he made nine saves and earned himself an overall match rating of 9.5/10 from SofaScore, was described as “stellar” by goalkeeper coach David Preece.
Taking into account how David De Gea’s current contract at United is set to expire this summer, perhaps landing a deal for Verbruggen would give the club their ideal long-term replacement for the Spaniard should he end up leaving in the near future.
Moving forward, we feel that the Red Devils should do all they can to beat Liverpool to the Anderlecht star’s signature this summer as he could be a useful long-term figure for the club given the talent he has.
