Manchester United journalist Laurie Whitwell has shared his verdict on Marcel Sabitzer following his latest performance for the club.
The midfielder completed the full 90 minutes in United’s recent 3-1 win over Fulham in the quarter-final of the FA Cup, bagging his first goal for the club since arriving on loan from Bayern Munich in January.
This then led to one journalist sharing his thoughts on the player and the possibility of seeing the Old Trafford outfit secure a permanent deal for him in the summer.
In a Twitter post following the Fulham victory, The Athletic’s United reporter said this about Sabitzer.
He said: “Marcel Sabitzer has fulfilled an important role at #MUFC since joining.
“His key PL stats are among best in team: 46mins per tackle, won 55mins per interception, 55mins per chance created.
“Lovely finish for his first goal. Club should look at permanent.”
As well as scoring United’s second goal of the game on Sunday, the 29-year-old also made one key pass as well as making two interceptions and one tackle.
This display ultimately earned the Switzerland international an overall match rating of 7.7/10 from SofaScore, making him the second-highest rated United player on the day.
Goal also picked up on the on-loan figure’s performance against the west London club as they gave him a match rating of 7/10 and said this about his display.
They said: “Made some good attacking runs to offer himself as a link between the midfield and forwards. Was well-placed to get the winning goal, which he took wonderfully well.”
Would you like to see Man United sign Sabitzer permanently this summer?
Yes
No
The midfielder’s efforts in the Premier League have also shown why Sabitzer has been a useful addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad, as he’s earned himself an overall performance rating of 6.74/10 from WhoScored, putting him above the likes of Antony (6.73/10), Christian Eriksen (6.65/10) and Raphael Varane (6.57/10).
With all of that in mind, we feel that despite not having an option in Sabitzer’s loan deal to make his move to Old Trafford a permanent one, the Red Devils should definitely make an effort to do so once the season ends.
