Alasdair Gold has admitted that Antonio Conte is happy at Tottenham Hotspur as he opens up fresh contract talks.

It has been reported over the last few days that the Spurs boss is set to hold talks with the Tottenham board over singing a longer-term deal, although they do hold an option to extend his current contract for at least another year.

Conte took over Spurs after a turbulent few months under Nuno Espirito Santo and managed to get the club into the top four last season, with the Lilywhites progressing into the knockout stages of the Champions League this campaign.

It all appears to be positive, with Gold claiming on the latest episode of the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast that Conte is now happy and energised at Spurs after a short break.

He said: “From everything I understand, Conte is very happy, been re-energised after that very nice holiday and there is a hope that he will put pen to paper on a new deal. Of course, we know the club have got an option to extend it by another year anyway. The current one he signed back in November 2021 ends in this summer, after this season.

Will Conte sign a new contract?

“But Spurs do have that little safety net – as much of a safety net as you can have with Antonio Conte as your manager, because he is a man that will just head off into the sunset if he doesn’t like things – but it’s going to be a fascinating week.

“It’s one of those where you’d love to be a fly on the wall, because I’d imagine there’s going to be a lot spoken about that will never see the light of day.”

TIF Thoughts on Conte’s future…

The club and Conte aren’t necessarily in a rush to thrash out new terms on a contract given that they can extend it by a year automatically before his current deal expires, giving them plenty of time to talk things through.

However, the fact both parties are now in fresh talks would suggest there’s a willingness on both sides to get Conte’s long-term future sorted out so he can focus on the matters at hand on the pitch.

Conte has spoken openly in the past about being backed in the transfer market and how he still needs more signings to ensure the squad at Spurs is good enough to challenge for silverware, so transfer plans and funds will likely be near the top of his priority list before signing a new deal.
