Tottenham Hotspur’s negative football is making Spurs fans bored, according to Perry Groves.
Groves was speaking on TalkSPORT when he claimed that the style of football Antonio Conte’s side are playing is boring for the fans in the stadium, who want the team to play with a more aggressive approach.
Spurs are currently fourth in the Premier League, but have been in inconsistent form, and dropped more points after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Brentford.
Groves claimed that the reactionary football the side are playing is hurting the team, with Conte’s side conceding the first goal in their last nine games, which is not exciting for the fans.
He said: “When Spurs fans are watching them play, they actually get frustrated with them, they get bored with them, because you want to see your team on the front foot, you want to see your team taking the game to the opposition.
“Spurs don’t do that, even at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they don’t come out, when you think ‘right, let’s get on the front foot, we’ll dictate the pace of the game and the tempo,’ they don’t.
“They play risk-averse football and hope the opposition make a mistake, then you can spring on them.
“Spurs are always two results away from the fans turning, especially at home. If they draw one and lose one at home, then that can become quite a vitriolic stadium.”
TIF thoughts on Spurs…
Although they have kept the pace in terms of results, Spurs’ performances have arguably not been good enough to create optimism for the second half of the season.
Fighting back from two goals down, although entertaining, is not a sustainable way of playing, and the Brentford draw showcased their strengths and weaknesses again.
Spurs were fragile at the back as they went 2-0 down, but once they took the attacking initiative they scored two top-quality goals and could have even netted a third, with Harry Kane hitting the woodwork at 2-2.
We feel the fans will want the side to take the initiative more in games and utilise their attacking talent in a better way than Conte is currently doing in order to lift spirits at their ground.
