The Rangers Review writer Ally Bain has claimed that Gers-linked star Todd Cantwell could ‘definitely add something’ to Michael Beale’s side.
Rangers are being linked with a move for the Norwich City star, though it is thought that no bid has been made for the midfielder thus far.
Gers boss Beale recently spoke about Cantwell, describing him as a player he likes ‘a lot’, when speaking on potential transfers, suggesting ‘in the next week or so we’ll see one or two things being confirmed.’
Cantwell has played 18 times in the Championship this season, but only nine of those have been from the start, averaging 48 minutes per game with the Canaries in the 2022/23 campaign.
Speaking on The Rangers Review, Bain was open to the idea of signing the 24-year-old, but warned of a potential ‘issue’ should he make the move to Ibrox.
Asked whether he would like to see Cantwell join this month, Bain stated: “Of course, amazing, really talented boy, and he could definitely add something to our team. There’s that name recognition there that is perhaps not the case with if we’re looking at boys from eastern Europe,
“It definitely ticks all the boxes as someone that should be able to come in and settle. I guess the bigger issue is the amount of games he’s played and just genuine match fitness that he’s got. Is he going to be able to come in right away and play 90 minutes every match?”
TIF Thoughts on Bain’s comments…
We believe that Cantwell would be a great signing for Rangers, as a move to Edinburgh could give him a fresh start on a career that’s stalled somewhat in recent years.
Beale’s side needs to prepare for the possibility of life without Kent when the summer comes around, his deal with the club runs out in May.
As for Cantwell he’s proven that he has talent, in his first Premier League season the winger bagged eight goal contributions for Norwich and would then pick up 13 the following season in the Championship.
One concern that could be raised is his readiness to play week in and week out for Rangers, Kent is the only other available option with Tom Lawrence out injured. Cantwell has only started half the games he’s played he might not be fully match-ready should he be signed.
