beIN Sports presenter Richard Keys has claimed that Jose Mourinho would be blasted if he was ‘serving up’ what Antonio Conte is producing at Tottenham.
Spurs returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 1-0 win in the Premier League following defeat in the north London derby.
The victory also came after a drab 0-0 draw in the Champions League at Eintracht Frankfurt in which the club came under criticism from Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Premier League striker labelled the Lilywhites ‘boring’ and claimed they were playing a similar style of football to when Jose Mourinho was in charge.
In his latest blog post, Keys has also taken the opportunity to have his say.
He wrote: “I still think Arsenal will come up short – but we need them to be nipping away at City. We need Spurs to keep winning as well, but watching them is really hard work. I said on beINSPORTS Saturday that if Mourinho was serving up what Conte is he’d be slaughtered. I’m not criticising Conte. He’s doing what he’s always done and Spurs need to be tougher, but when Mourinho did the same thing at Tottenham he was labelled a dinosaur. Conte is supposedly a tactical genius.”
TIF Thoughts on Keys’ comments…
Are Spurs hard to watch?
Yes
No, we're still winning games!
While Spurs finally ended a run of four games without a goal from open play on the road at the weekend, no player besides Harry Kane has scored on their travels since Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at Chelsea in the second weekend of the season.
At Brighton, they again only created one big chance according to SofaScore as Hugo Lloris was forced to make twice as many saves (4) as Robert Sanchez did between the sticks for the Seagulls.
The home side controlled possession with 59% of the ball and had double the amount of shots from inside the box (8) as Spurs.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side actually finished the game ahead in terms of expected goals, highlighting the quality of chances they created.
Nevertheless, the north London club walked away with three points – however, whether that style of play is sustainable or indeed acceptable as far as the supporters are concerned remains to be seen.
