Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about Aston Villa target Luis Suarez on the Que Golazo YouTube channel.
Following the appointment of Steven Gerrard, Villa have been linked with a whole host of players with connections to the former England captain such as Philippe Coutinho – who has now signed permanently – and ex-teammate Suarez.
The Uruguayan striker will become a free agent this summer after seeing his contract at Atletico Madrid come to an end, and Villa have been linked with a sensational swoop for Suarez to help bolster their attacking options.
Romano claims that Gerrard has previously held talks with the Villa board about potentially signing Suarez in this latest update, but appeared to suggest things were at a standstill.
Should Villa sign Suarez?
Yes!
No!
He said: “For Luis Suarez, I always have many questions, but at the moment, I’m told that there [is] still no advanced contact, so it’s a possibility because Gerrard discussed him with the board a few months ago, it was February, but as of today, it’s not a negotiation with his agent or with the player.”
TIF Thoughts on Villa’s interest in Suarez…
As things stand, Gerrard has the duo of Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, who have netted 87 Premier League goals between them throughout their careers, which makes them both reliable and dependable in front of goal, but adding someone of Suarez’s ability and experience would be great for the pair as they could learn a lot.
However, Suarez is now 35 years old, and having recently just left title challengers Atletico Madrid, he may well demand high wages that might not fit into Villa’s pay structure, so this deal could be one for later in the window if Villa don’t find another striker that they like this summer.
