Journalist Anthony Joseph has claimed that he wouldn’t be surprised if Christopher Jullien was to leave Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Jullien has had a frustrating season for Celtic, as he was out of action in the first half of the campaign following his ACL injury in December 2020 and was out of favour when he returned to fitness, which meant that he did not make a single appearance in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic’s central defender, Cameron Carter-Vickers was named in the SPFL Team of the Season and formed a great partnership with Carl Starfelt as the Hoops defence conceded just 22 goals all campaign, so it was always going to be hard for Jullien to make his way into the side when he did return.

With the defenders performing so well last season for Celtic, Joseph has claimed to GiveMeSport that Jullien will have to either earn his place back in the side or move on in the summer in search of regular game time.

He said: “Starfelt and Carter-Vickers were doing so well, why would you change it? And Stephen Welsh has done really well when he’s come in as well, so he needs to earn his place, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was to move on.”

Do you think Jullien should be given another chance?

TIF Thoughts on Joseph’s comments…

With Celtic winning the SPFL, it means that they qualify automatically for the Champions League group stages, so Ange Postecoglou will be keen to upgrade his squad, and if he felt like Jullien was not good enough last term for his side, he might not have a role to play at all next term.

However, Jullien did return from a lengthy injury layoff, so he might be keen to get a good pre-season under his belt and then show Postecoglou what he can do and fight for his way back into the starting XI.

Either way, it certainly seems as though the Frenchman has a big decision to make about his future, and could add to the potential exits from the Celtic defence with Josip Juranovic recently linked with a departure.
