Manchester United have made no contact with Moussa Dembele, according to Rich Fay.

Fay claimed that he’d previously spoken with representatives of Dembele and they had confirmed that United hadn’t made contact over a January move.

It’s no secret that United are in need of a new striker after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo left them without an out-and-out No 9.

One player who has been linked as recently as last week with a move to Old Trafford by Media Foot is the Frenchman, who has seemingly been admired by the Red Devils as far back as two years ago.

However, Fay revealed on the Manchester Evening News YouTube channel that as of yet, there’s been nothing to suggest a move for the Lyon forward is in motion.

(51:13) “I touched base with people close to him and they say there is no contact at the moment on Moussa Dembele.

“He’s someone United have looked at in the past numerous times, certainly someone who’s more physical and more of a focal point – again, it stems down really to what is it Ten Hag really wants?”

“I would be personally more in favour of someone like Moussa Dembele because he wouldn’t have to start every game,” Fay said.

TIF Thoughts on Fay’s comments…

A couple of years ago, Dembele would’ve perhaps proved a no-brainer to bring in, but he’s struggled desperately this season, while his contract runs out in the summer.

Only two goals in 13 appearances this season for the former Celtic man has seen his stock drop massively, with him only playing nine minutes in Lyon’s return to Ligue 1 action.

However, if he can re-find his form of previous years where he bagged 66 goals across his previous last three full campaigns at the Groupama Stadium, perhaps he would be worth a shot.

We think he’d be a fantastic short-term option as a focal point which Erik ten Hag has previously favoured most notably with Sebastien Haller at Ajax, and a permanent future will likely be easy to wrap up with the end of his contract looming as well.
