Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The west London club have a track record when it comes to signing players from fellow Premier League clubs such as Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella and Raheem Sterling to name a few.
Now that the next summer transfer window is on the way, the west London club and Todd Boehly have apparently found themselves in a race to land another top-flight figure.
According to a recent report from Football Insider, Chelsea, alongside some of their Premier League rivals such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, are eyeing a potential summer swoop for Lavia.
The report also adds that Lavia has “jumped up Chelsea’s shortlist of midfield targets recently” and that they have made “very early moves in sounding out the possibility of a deal.”
The Belgian only joined Southampton during the previous summer transfer window from Manchester City in a deal worth an initial fee of £10.5m with £3.5m in add-ons.
Since then, the 19-year-old has made 23 appearances for the south coast club across all competitions, with one goal and one assist to his name.
Would you like to see Chelsea sign Romeo Lavia?
Yes
No
Across his 19 Premier League appearances, the midfielder has racked up the highest percentage of successful passes (86.7%) out of anyone currently at Southampton.
Hailed by journalist Ed Aarons as an “outstanding” player, Lavia showed what he’s capable of in the Saints’ latest league game against Tottenham Hotspur where he made three key passes in the 3-3 draw and earned himself an overall match rating of 7.1/10 from SofaScore, leaving only the three Southampton goalscorers with higher ratings in the starting XI.
With all of that in mind, should the St. Mary’s outfit find themselves getting relegated, the Blues should do all they can to land a deal for the young midfield star in the summer given how young he is and how capable he is of playing in the Premier League.
