Frank McAvennie has urged Giorgos Giakoumakis to stay at Celtic amid the club’s reported interest in bringing in other striking options.
McAvennie has claimed that Giakoumakis offers a different option to Kyogo Furuhashi and should stay at the club despite him now being behind the Japanese ace in the pecking order.
To make matters worse for the 28-year-old, the Daily Record previously reported that the Bhoys are still interested in Cho Gue-Sung, who looks set to leave Jeonbuk Hyundai in the K League, leaving it increasingly unlikely that Giakoumakis’ minutes will improve.
And with The Sun claiming that he could be set for an exit with interest from Saudi Arabia who would offer him a more lucrative deal than Celtic and with finer weather to boast, the article claims he is unhappy with the Scottish climate.
All this makes it seem increasingly likely he won’t remain in Glasgow with contract talks stalling, putting the cherry on the cake.
However, McAvennie has urged the Greek to have a change of heart, telling Football Insider that the Hoops still want to hold onto him.
“I think they want to keep him,
“He is something different from Kyogo. It is great because he can come on and change the game, they are not like-for-like.
“If he brings another striker in, that is three and it will be very good. Ange is not scared to make a change, which is great.”
TIF Thoughts on McAvennie’s comments…
With Celtic targeting a new striker, it’ll be surprising to see Giakoumakis not push for an exit with his already limited game time surely only set to get worse with a new arrival.
The 28-year-old has only featured in 90 minutes over the course of the last five games with him failing to register a goal involvement in any of those outings.
To make matters worse for the Greece international, Furuhashi bagged a double in the 4-1 win over St Johnstone with the Japanese’s form set to continue to leave Giakoumakis on the sidelines.
I’d loved to keep him but can’t keep every player he has an eye for goal last season percentage was good this season not as good as it should against St Johnstone his first touch let him down but if he not happy time to go if Celtic_fc_1888 get a good return angi is cutting his squad and going for more players who are comfortable any a number of positions rather than just one but we need to bring in a player similar to giakmakous good in air and strong and faster need that turn of pace for Europe and I think angi is gauging his players on
