Leeds United have reportedly made contact with Pedro Martins over potentially becoming the new long-term manager at Elland Road.

Following the sacking of Jesse Marsch earlier this month, the Whites have seen Michael Skubala take temporary charge of the team.

A recent statement from the club revealed that Skubala and his two assistants, Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas, will continue to lead the men’s first team for the club’s upcoming fixtures.

With this short-term decision now in place, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the club’s pursuit of a more long-term solution for their manager problem.

According to a recent report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Leeds have identified Martins as a potential candidate for the manager’s job and have made exploratory contact with the 52-year-old.

After spending four years in charge of Olympiacos, Martins joined Qatari club Al-Gharafa SC back in November.

During his time in Piraeus, the Portugal-born manager oversaw 221 Olympiacos games in total across all competitions, winning 143, drawing 41 and losing 37 in the process.

He also won three league titles and one Greek Cup with his previous side, highlighting how successful he was during his tenure.

Despite only recently taking the job in Qatar with his current side, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the prospect of managing in the Premier League with a big club like Leeds would be a tempting proposition for Martins.

However, with the Whites apparently seeing the likes of Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot reject the opportunity to become the new Leeds boss, it appears that hiring a new manager has not been as easy as the club may have envisaged.

Judging by his previous exploits in Europe, we think that if the West Yorkshire club see the former Olympiacos manager – who was hailed for his ‘immense success‘ in the past – as a suitable candidate to take charge of the team, they should do all they can to convince him to leave Qatar and join them so they can finally put this managerial pursuit to bed and focus on what’s happening on the pitch.
