Newcastle United’s summer transfer window is set to be an exciting one as they look to build on their January recruits of the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier.
The Times are reporting that the Magpies are preparing to break their transfer record to seal the signature of Lucas Paqueta from Lyon who could follow in the footsteps of his compatriot and former teammate at Lyon, Bruno Guimaraes.
Eddie Howe is yet to conclude any summer business so far, but some are sceptical on the potential incoming of Paqueta. Liam Kennedy has had his say on the transfer (from NUFC Matters podcast), claiming: “You can never say never in football, as often things are never truly black and white. But the noises I have been hearing so far this summer suggest this is not a deal the Magpies are looking to complete, should they get the majority of their priority targets. It’s definitely one which gets the juices flowing on social media, however.”

It’s no surprise to see people ‘falling’ for the fanfare when you consider the club are potentially breaking a record transfer fee, that wouldn’t happen for a minor player, it would be for a huge signing. Given the impact Guimaraes has had, you can see why the excitement is there. He scored five times in 17 games since joining.
Paqueta has been similarly impressive for Lyon this season, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in his 34 outings. If he can settle like Guimaraes did, then you can see why Newcastle fans are excited, but going off Cronin, it doesn’t sound likely.
