Former Ipswich Town star David Norris is intrigued by the prospect of new signing Tete Yengi developing at Portman Road.

The club have announced that they have secured the signing of the striker from Australian side Newcastle Jets.

The 6 ft 5 striker is likely to play primarily for the U23s but Norris hopes that he will develop and earn the chance to play for the first-team.

Yengi forced his way into the Jets first-team and made nine A-League appearances, although he did not manage to score.

He has already been on the bench for Kieron Dyer’s U23s, and will be hoping to hit the back of the net with regularity in the youth ranks.

His height, of course, will add some degree of physicality and Norris believes that his frame will allow him the chance to play for the club.

He said: “I think that’s another thing, having some size and some presence in your team, I think a lot of managers do like to have that whether it be at centre-half or centre-forward so yeah, it will be interesting to see how this one develops.”

Yengi has signed a one-year deal with Ipswich and will be out to earn an extension.
