Nigel Jemson insists that Divock Origi will not be given many chances to show his worth at Liverpool this season despite staying at the club in the summer.
The striker was heavily linked with a departure from the club but he has remained at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp, of course, has a number of options up front, with Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota both options to play alongside the fabled pairing of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Does Origi have a future at Liverpool?
Yes
No
That means that the Belgium international is unlikely to be given all that many chances at the club, and is likely to have another season like the 2020/21 campaign.
Last season, Origi made just two starts in the Premier League and made a total of just nine outings in the top-flight.
Jemson, the former Premier League striker, does not expect him to be given many chances at all this term, and wonders for how long he will accept being a bit-part player.
He said: “So does he just accept being a bit-part player at Liverpool football club? Maybe for a short time you do. It’s the same as what Shaqiri did, he’s managed to get away, he wants to play regular football and being an international, you understand that.
“You look at it for Liverpool, you’ve got Firmino, you’ve got Jota to come in, I’ll think Origi would be the next one in line.
“There will be some opportunities for him, I’m sure, in maybe the League Cup or the FA Cup or coming on in certain games but I can’t see it being on a regular basis.”
