JustJoe Football Show presenter Joe Wainman believes Junior Firpo could become one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.
Firpo joined Leeds United from Barcelona after the two clubs agreed a £13million fee in July and, in doing so, became the Whites’ most expensive incoming of the transfer window.
The 25-year-old headed to the Premier League having made 41 appearances for Barcelona but the Spanish giants were keen to offload Firpo after exceeding La Liga’s wage limit.
Will Firpo be a success at Leeds?
Yes
No
Firpo’s arrival also coincided with Leeds seeing left-back Ezgjan Alioski depart following the expiry of his contract and reject a new deal in favour of a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ahli.
However, Firpo’s time at Elland Road has got off to a slow start and he has made just one Premier League start so far.
Former All Leeds TV anchorman Wainman insists the Dominican Republic-born full-back will prove to be a positive addition by Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa.
He told TIF: “I’ve big hopes for Junior throughout the full season and I think he’ll be one of the best left-backs in the division.
“Don’t get me wrong, we have a lot of great left-backs in the Premier League but I just know how well full-backs work under Bielsa.
“Sometimes it takes time but I think Firpo has the raw talent to be a great left-back under Bielsa. I see him getting assists and goals.”
