He’s currently enjoying a scintillating start to his Standard Liege career but Belgian Under-21 international Benito Raman has revealed Aston Villa once wanted to sign him, report Sport Witness.
Speaking to Het Laatste Niuews ahead of Liege’s game against his former side Gent this evening, Raman revealed that Aston Villa were keen on landing him during their Premier League days.
Raman claimed: “It bothers me to not have left Gent through the front door.
With Aston Villa fans having watched their side slowly decline to where they currently reside in the Championship, it appears Raman made the right decision for his career.
Signing a four-year deal with Belgian giants Standard Liege in July, the 21-year-old has already scored five goals in his first 11 appearances and is most definitely on an upward curve in his career.
As for Villa, new boss Steve Bruce travels to his former club to take on fierce cross-town rivals Birmingham City in the Championship at high noon on Sunday.
