Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos as they look to bolster their attacking options in the next transfer window.

What’s the latest on Ramos to Chelsea?

According to Football Insider, the Blues are eyeing a big-money move for the 21-year-old.

The report details that although the forward has a release clause of £105m, his parent club Benfica would be willing to accept an offer in the region of £70m to allow the player to depart.

This outlet also revealed that Ramos is viewed as a cheaper alternative to Napoli marksman Victor Osimhen, with the Italian league leaders supposedly valuing the Nigerian at well over £100m.

Interestingly the Portuguese is represented by Gestigute, which is the same agency that takes care of Joao Felix, who is currently plying his trade in England.

Would Ramos fit in at Chelsea?

The seven-cap international has been in magnificent form and is enjoying a fine breakout season, netting 17 goals in 22 Primeira Liga games as the Eagles sit at the summit of the table. Ramos has also registered three goals in the Champions League as his side prepares to take on Inter Milan in the quarter-finals.

The £17k-per-week man recently projected himself into the spotlight when he controversially displaced Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal’s starting lineup in their last 16 World Cup encounter with Switzerland.

Incredibly, the £35m-rated superstar netted a hat-trick in a 6-1 thumping to become the youngest player to score three in one World Cup knockout tie since Pele in 1958.

This led Arsenal legend Ian Wright to describe the Benfica youth product as “very impressive” and the performance prompted many European juggernauts to start looking at this unmissable talent.

Ramos symbolises a natural goalscorer, which is something that the Chelsea fans and hierarchy are desperately searching for.

The frontman has proven himself to be a more productive and consistent forward than Kai Havertz, who currently plays as the furthest player forward for the Blues. This is showcased by the fact that he ranks in the top 2% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for non-penalty goals and the top 9% for total shots.

The German, by contrast, ranks in just the top 74% and 29% for the same metrics to indicate his lack of presence and impact.

The purchase of Ramos, who is of such a young age and brimming with limitless potential would be a shrewd piece of business for the West London outfit in their quest to escape the depths of midtable mediocrity next season.
