TalkSport insider Alex Crook has provided an update on Eddie Howe and his potential move to Celtic.

The Bhoys have been without a permanent manager ever since Neil Lennon’s resignation back in February, with John Kennedy taking charge on an interim basis. A few weeks ago it did seem likely that former AFC Bournemouth boss Howe was set to take charge, however a statement from his representatives saying he wasn’t going to take over anywhere until the summer threw that into some doubt.

As a result, news on that front has gone quiet in recent weeks, but speaking on TalkSport on Wednesday, Crook revealed that Howe is indeed on his way to Celtic Park and gave a brief explanation as to what the holdup was:

(2:33:57) “Lots of speculation over the past few weeks and months about Eddie Howe and Celtic. Looked like it was a done deal a few weeks ago, then Eddie Howe’s people almost distanced himself from the job, and indeed Celtic themselves released a statement saying that managerial hunt was ongoing.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

“I’ve been told from very reliable sources that Eddie Howe is now heading to Celtic for the start of next season, he’s even starting to assemble a backroom team. Some of that backroom team will come from his old club Bournemouth, and actually one of the reasons for the delay is of course Bournemouth are part of the Championship play-offs… that could hamper Eddie Howe’s chances of taking one or two of his former coaches with him to Glasgow.

“But Eddie Howe, as far as I’m being told, will be the Celtic manager in time for the start of next season.

(2:35:00) “Once it becomes clear what division Bournemouth are in, and therefore how much negotiating it’s going to take from Eddie Howe to get one or two of those trusted lieutenants away from the Vitality, I think it will probably accelerate then. But I would imagine Eddie is already assembling a list of targets.”

TIF Thoughts on Alex Crooks’ comments on Eddie Howe to Celtic

So by the sounds of it, Howe is in the process of taking over at Celtic Park, where after the season that they have had, he has certainly got a lot on his hands if he is to turn them around and make them contenders for silverware once again.

And seeing as the only trophy he has won as a manager was the EFL Championship in 2015, the club have taken a big risk in handing over such big responsibilities to someone who isn’t exactly what you’d call a winner when it comes to management.

Let’s just see if the risk pays off because after the anger the fans have shown this year, they really need to get them back on side and fast.
