Pundit Carlton Palmer has recently given his views about the next potential Sheffield United boss.
While Chris Wilder left the club earlier this year and Paul Heckingbottom is in interim charge till the end of the campaign, the club’s next permanent manager is expected to be named before the end of the current campaign.
Heckingbottom is said to be one of the candidates to take over the role permanently, but the other names haven’t been revealed yet by the club’s CEO. The reported number one choice for the job is Alexander Blessin, but Slavisa Jokanovic is also linked with the role.
Do you think the next Sheffield United boss should be concerned?
Yes
No
Palmer though, has concerns about the next manager’s control at the club. In a chat with Transfer Tavern, he made his issues clear.
He said: “This might be an issue in terms of why Chris left the club because if they put somebody like Paul, you’ve got to remember now, if you put somebody like Paul in there and they could perhaps call the shots with Paul.
“But if you get a manager worth his salts, you’re not going to be able to call the shots. He’s going to want to run the club the way that he wants to run the club. And, you know, I think in the end that was the issue with Chris Wilder – they were trying to bring in a director of football.”
TIF Thoughts on the next Sheffield United boss..
One of the reasons for Wilder’s exit from the Blades was disagreements with the board regarding recruitment and transfers and it was revealed later that the Englishman had previously offered to resign from the club too.
That should be alarming for the club’s next manager and is a reflection of the fact that the working environment might be a bit restricted and he may not have full control over the club’s affairs. And like it was for Wilder, this could become a damaging aspect for him.
