Speaking on the most recent episode on The Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has revealed that Barcelona have tabled a bid for Manchester United target Erling Haaland.
The 20-year-old striking sensation has been in fabulous form this season, bagging an incredible 37 goals in 38 games for Borussia Dortmund as well as providing 11 assists for the German giants.
Do you think United should try and sign Haaland this summer?
Yes
No
Haaland’s sensational displays have attracted the attention of several of the continent’s top teams over the last few months, with United one of those heavily linked with a move for the Norway international.
However, the Old Trafford outfit’s pursuit has hit a stumbling block according to McGarry, who disclosed how Barca have made a concrete offer for the Dortmund man.
He said: (17:57) “Not such good news for Manchester United, perhaps Duncan is the fact that we have learned, and we can report now exclusively, that Erling Haaland, probably the most sought-after striker in European football right now, along with Kylian Mbappe, that Barcelona have made an initial bid that we understand to be €105 million.
“I suspect it’s not a bid that they believe will be accepted by Borussia Dortmund, given the valuation of the player is probably upwards of €150m. However, as all negotiations do, they start with a whisper rather than with a shout.”
TIF Thoughts on Haaland’s future…
With the recent announcement that Edinson Cavani will remain at Old Trafford for another 12 months, signing a striker has arguably become less of a priority this summer for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Haaland’s teammate Jadon Sancho is reportedly on the market for a reduced figure of £80m, and therefore, could provide a better value for money alternative to the Scandinavian forward.
Whether Barcelona can even afford the Dortmund man is another question, given the huge amount of debt the Catalan giants are in, so United may be better off waiting another year to reignite their interest in Haaland when his £68m release clause kicks in.
