Everton supporters aired their delight over an ‘on this day’ post on the club’s official Twitter account.
The video, posted to the club’s account, depicted the Toffees mauling Southampton 7-1 at Goodison Park in 1996 (via Premier League).
With many supporters in attendance that day and reliving the action, they headed straight for the comments section to let their thoughts on the trip down memory lane gush.
Great day that.
Thought we were genuine title contenders that year but January onwards we had so much bad luck. Injuries and suspensions to key players …. then we lost Big Joe.We never recovered from that.

That day, Gary Speed netted a hat-trick for the Toffees and Andrei Kanchelskis bagged a brace, with Nicky Barmby and Graham Stuart netting one each (as per Sky Sports).
With the welcome trip down memory lane, due to lacklustre recent form (via Daily Star), many supporters enjoyed the chance to wax lyrical over the club’s former successes.

Remember it well. Great shame how it fell apart so quickly post Christmas, had the makings of a very good side.

What do we think?
Former glories and accomplishments often offer as a welcome warmth when current form hits some stony ground, and for Everton supporters, it is no different.
Watching all seven goals fly in is quite the sight, and definitely worth the watch for Toffees supporters.
