Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has been discussing Mikel Arteta’s management during a recent YouTube video.
The Gunners, going into this weekend’s fixtures, currently find themselves in 15th place in the Premier League – and with Everton to face on Saturday evening, followed by a Carabao Cup tie versus Manchester City before the visit of Chelsea, things could still get a lot worse for Arteta’s side in the weeks to come.
Having already suffered seven league defeats from their opening 13 fixtures, it may be understandable if some supporters are beginning to question the young manager and whether or not he should be afforded more time to try and turn the ship around. On that subject, here is what Watts had to say:
“You do need time to build this new project – but also, I don’t think that can be used as an excuse for recent performances and recent results. No matter how much time it’s going to take you, you need to at least perform to a decent standard if you are a manager of Arsenal Football Club.
“Let’s face it, neither Mikel Arteta nor the players have been performing at a decent standard for the last six weeks or so in the Premier League, and that has to change. The only way he is going to get the time that he wants – and in my view, the time he deserves – is by winning football games, and that’s ultimately going to avoid him getting the sack.”

Although the journalist appears to understand that some patience is required at Arsenal, he refused to give the 38-year-old boss a free pass with regards to the recent results. The Gunners earned a draw versus Southampton in midweek to stop their worrying run of successive home defeats but in our view, there is still a long way to go before we can say they’re back on track.
Arsenal’s technical director Edu has recently given his public backing to Arteta, but if results don’t dramatically improve and soon, the former Manchester City coach could find himself under real pressure at the Emirates Stadium.
