Football journalist Ian McGarry has revealed that Premier League side Leicester City have recently made a transfer bid for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
This comes after McGarry recently co-hosted the latest episode of The Transfer Window Podcast alongside Duncan Castles where the duo spoke about the latest transfer-related news topics.
On the subject of Edouard and the reported interest from Leicester in him, McGarry had this to say on the situation. (52.48)
He said: “We can now reveal that it is our understanding that Leicester City have had a formal bid rejected for the Celtic striker.
“The bid was around £14 million with Celtic valuing the player £11 million more than that at £25 million. Obviously, Brendan Rodgers had Edouard as one of his key players when he was still at Celtic. Leicester are not obviously a club [that] don’t have money to spend. I suspect this was an opening gambit rather than what they actually value the player at, and I think we can probably see them come back in with a bid much closer to what Celtic’s valuation is.”
Celtic signed Edouard on an original loan deal from French side Paris Saint-Germain back in August 2017 before signing him on a permanent deal in July 2018 for a fee of £9.27 million.
Overall, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £13.5 million, has made a total of 160 appearances for the Hoops, prior to their SPFL clash against Dundee United, in which he has scored 81 goals and provided 35 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).
TIF Thoughts on Ian McGarry’s comments on Leicester’s bid for Edouard…
Given how Edouard is currently Celtic’s top scorer in the league and one of their overall standout performers with a season rating of 7.34/10, it’s understandable why the club have reportedly rejected this apparent bid from Leicester for him and value him higher than what they offered.
Do you think Celtic should sell Edouard this summer?
Yes
No
However, if Leicester do come back with an improved offer for the Frenchman, it will be intriguing to see whether or not Celtic end up accepting a fee for him and allow him to leave.
With Edouard having made 68 appearances under current Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers when he was at Celtic, scoring 27 goals in the process, there’s every possibility that the striker would want to reunite with his former boss in the Premier League.
