The chance to work under Julen Lopetegui could attract Atletico Madrid defender Felipe to Wolves, according to transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Wolves have already signed Matheus Cunha from Diego Simeone’s side, and they could secure another Brazilian as centre-back Felipe may follow Cunha to Molineux.

The 33-year-old has made just three appearances this season for the club, and his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Speaking to This Is Futbol, O’Rourke claimed that Lopetegui is on his way to reviving Wolves, who were bottom of the table when he joined, and that he could attract Felipe to joining the club.

“I’m sure they will be confident now, that with the big win at Everton and Cunha done as well, that they can convince Felipe to make the move to Molineux as well,” he stated.

“The chance to work under Lopetegui I’m sure is something that would play a big part in Felipe’s thinking also.”

TIF Thoughts on Wolves and Felipe…

Despite his lack of minutes this season, Felipe would arrive as an experienced defender with over 300 appearances for Porto and Atletico Madrid under his belt, and as a Portuguese speaker, he could fit in well with the rest of the squad.

Wolves need strengthening as they face a tough battle to stay up after a poor start to the season, and signing a player who has won La Liga and played in the Champions League could help galvanise the rest of the squad.

Felipe played 35 times for Atletico last season, but lost his regular starting place following the arrival of Axel Witsel in the summer, and is now set to leave after nearly four years in Madrid.

Lopetegui’s pedigree in La Liga can help Wolves utilise the Spanish market, and Felipe would be a good example of the Spaniard using his reputation to attract transfer targets who may have admired his stint at Sevilla.
