Che Adams may not be the solution to Leeds United’s striking problems, according to Dean Jones.

The Scotland forward has been linked with a move to the club in January, with Jesse Marsch seeking a new striker, but Jones is not convinced that he would be a good fit for Leeds.

Patrick Bamford has struggled in front of goal this season, and a new striker is high up on the agenda in the transfer window, but the 26-year-old may not be the answer to help Leeds avoid the drop zone.

Speaking to This Is Futbol, Jones claimed that Leeds need someone who can come in and score goals, and that despite his experience, Southampton striker Adams is not reliable enough in front of goal to depend upon in January.

He said: “In terms of the needing proven goalscorers in the Premier League, they have liked Adams before, but he’s only got four goals this season.

I’m not sure that that’s enough evidence to help convince them that you can save their season. I wouldn’t be thinking that that’s a guaranteed way to solve the problems at Leeds.”

TIF Thoughts on Leeds and Adams…

We disagree that Adams would not be able to help Leeds in January, as he would be able to replace Bamford in the current system as a presence up front.

Although he has scored just four times in the league this season, he has scored 29 times for Southampton overall and has previously shown he can be a good goalscorer when given chances.

In his final season at Birmingham City, he scored 22 times in 46 league games, albeit in the Championship, and last season provided ten goals and assists in 30 games.

Finding a Premier League-proven player in the middle of the season is a tough ask, and if Adams is available from a Southampton side close to them in the table, Leeds could secure themselves a smart signing by bringing him in.
