Rangers captain James Tavernier has labelled manager Michael Beale as ‘one of the best coaches’ he’s worked with.

In a recent press conference prior to the Gers’ midweek clash against Hibs, the skipper spoke very highly of the managerial appointment made by the Ibrox club.

Ex-boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked last month after only a year in charge. At the start of the month, Beale was announced as the club’s new manager, leaving English Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

However, with the Gers boss no stranger to the blue parts of Glasgow, Tavernier hailed Beale’s qualities having previously been assistant manager while Steven Gerrard was in charge.

Tavernier stated: “He’s been one of the best coaches I’ve worked under. His football knowledge of the game is second to none, and when I sort of got a sniff of the club looking to sign him and he was going to make the move up, it was a real enjoyment and I was really looking forward to it.

“I’m sure the new boys who have not worked underneath him have really seen what he’s brought to the table in these past two weeks.”

TIF Thoughts on Tavernier’s comments…

We believe that a sense of familiarity could be a real boost to the Rangers dressing room, clearly and the skipper is happy to have the new manager on board.

Former Rangers man Graham Dorrans has also spoken very highly of Beale in recent times. Speaking to Sky Sports, he claimed that Beale was ‘just as important’ as Steven Gerrard during the duo’s tenure at Ibrox.

Beale can now implement his own philosophy into the club. A fresh set of ideas could be what Rangers need, who have endured an underwhelming season so far.

They’re second in the Scottish Premiership, but are six points behind Celtic, having played a game more. Meanwhile, they had a disastrous campaign in the Champions League, finishing bottom of the group with no wins and only scoring two goals.

So it’s clear Beale has quite the job on his hands if they’re to catch up to the league leaders. When you consider his age, perhaps Rangers see Beale as someone who can take the club forward in the long term.

Though if Tavernier’s comments are anything to go by, the vast majority of the dressing room will be more than happy with that.
