Some Birmingham City fans have reacted positively on social media to recent reports that Borussia Dortmund will complete the signing of 16-year-old Jude Bellingham in the summer.
The alleged news on Bellingham’s future recently emerged when German publication Bild reported that Dortmund have agreed to pay what would be a club-record transfer fee for the Birmingham City youngster, stating that Dortmund will pay a fee of £30.5 million (€35m) to bring Bellingham to Signal Iduna Park in the summer.
If the fee that Dortmund are reported to be willing to pay for the 16-year-old turns out to be true, it would be higher than the £27.45 million (€31m) sum that BVB paid to sign Mats Hummels from Bayern Munich this past July, which currently stands as Dortmund’s record transfer fee, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
Despite being just 16-years-old, Bellingham has already made an impact at first-team level for Birmingham City this season, featuring in 31 of the Blues’ 36 Championship games thus far in the 2019/20 campaign. The youngster has earned an average overall rating of 6.80 on WhoScored.com from his 31 Championship appearances. This makes the 16-year-old Birmingham’s sixth-highest rated player on the website for the 2019/20 season.
Despite making a positive contribution for the Blues this season, some Birmingham City supporters have shared a positive reaction to the news that Bellingham may be moving to Dortmund in the summer. Good for him. If true, Dortmund know how to get the best out of younger players. He’d be wasted at a PL team. I hope its true for @BellinghamJude

Dortmund is the only club I’d happily send him to. Know how to develop young players. Plus it’s likely 35mil with add ins

If true perfect club for Bellingham will get game time and will progress as a player no doubt. Sad to see him go so soon however it was obvious that was going to happen #bcfc

I’m not even that gutted about Bellingham leaving as it’s a terrific move for him.
He’ll play at a club that is renowned for developing world class youngsters without the pressure of the British media.
Use the money wisely in the summer please. #BCFC

I’d hate to see him play against us. This is a good move but a bidding war in the summer would be good

What do we think?
Bellingham’s potential transfer to Dortmund would draw an easy comparison with Jadon Sancho’s move to the same club back in 2017. Sancho was 17-years-old when he made the move to Germany, while the Birmingham City youngster will turn 17 on the 29th of June.
Sancho has gone from strength to strength since joining Dortmund in 2017. Having made just 12 appearances and a total of five goal contributions in his first Bundesliga season, the former Manchester City player is currently the Bundesliga’s third-highest goalscorer for the 2019/20 season, having scored 14 goals for Dortmund this season so far.
Sancho has also made 14 Bundesliga assists this season, which is the second-highest amount of assists that any Bundesliga player has made during the 2019/20 campaign thus far.
Dortmund have proven themselves to be a club capable of helping young players to develop in recent years. This is clear by Jadon Sancho’s improvement since joining the club. It may be fair for some Blues fans to be positive about Dortmund’s reported move for Bellingham, considering that the German club would reportedly be paying a club-record fee for the 16-year-old. The youngster may have a good chance to follow in Sancho’s footsteps and reach his potential with BVB.
