Many Leeds United fans have flocked to a tweet from Leeds fan and journalist James Marshment relaying the news that Gaetano Berardi is set to return to training.
Berardi, who is the longest-serving player in Leeds’ squad, has been out of action since July when he ruptured his cruciate ligament.
Despite suffering that injury, the 32-year-old was handed a new one-year deal from the Yorkshire club in October. Now, Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that the former Switzerland international’s recovery is almost complete and he will be back in training on Monday.
So, how have these Leeds United fans been reacting to this news?
After Marshment relayed this news on Twitter and declared that he is ‘delighted’ to hear of Berardi’s impending return, lots of Whites supporters replied to his tweet to share that they are also eager to see the £270k-rated man back in action.
“Can’t wait for him to step out on PL pitch. After us being safe, I think that’s my #1 ask for this season, that & fans being back in, in some way, to be able to honor Pablo, Berra & others that may not be on journey with us next year, but did their bit to get us here!”
“Amazing. Will Forshaw be ready by 2022?”
“The Prem isn’t ready for his two footed tackles”
“Fabulous news. If you thought Coopers tackle the other night was good wait until Berra sldes in like a freight train.”
Is Berardi good enough for the Premier League?
YES
NO
“Fantastic news. We need to have him and Pablo starting at Elland Road in front of a packed house before they say sayonara.”
“Gaetanooooo!!! Just let me see him get a run out for us, please! I beg of thee!! Will be best day Ever!!”
“Cant wait to see him making full blooded tackles on Fernandes and Harry Kane”
“Looked like he’d been at this level for years in the cup game against Arsenal last year, he’ll fit right in”
Judging by these Whites fans’ tweets, it certainly seems like Berardi is a popular figure amongst members of the Elland Road faithful and it will be interesting to see how he fares upon his return to first-team action.
