Dan Cook has claimed Nathan Ferguson picking up yet another injury is a ‘real tragedy’ for Crystal Palace and the player himself.
Ferguson was a controversial signing a few years ago after he joined as a free agent from West Bromwich Albion, as Palace were ordered to pay a small compensation fee, the figure of which was contested from the Baggies’ end.
However, as things stand, it doesn’t look to have been worth the hassle from Palace, as he’s yet to start a first-team game for the Eagles and has had to deal with countless injuries during his time at Selhurst Park.
Patrick Vieira has revealed that Ferguson has had yet another setback in his return from injury – something Cook has spoken about on the HLTCO podcast.
“In Nathan Ferguson’s case, he is someone that has been on Crystal Palace’s books now since the July of 2020 but has only eight minutes of senior professional football for us, which is, I think it’s fair to say, a real tragedy.
Has Ferguson been a flop at Palace?
Yes!
No!
“Coming in from West Brom, he was supposed to be the heir to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s crown, the long-term replacement for him and the player that could go on and really flourish in the Premier League.”
TIF Thoughts on Ferguson’s time at Palace…
It’s safe to say that Ferguson’s time at Palace has been a monumental failure thus far, as having only played a handful of minutes in over two years is simply not good enough for any professional footballer.
Questions will be rife about whether Ferguson’s body is fully equipped to play Premier League football and cope with the intensity that it brings on the pitch and at the training ground.
However, he is still very young, so he has time on his side to turn things around, and Patrick Vieira will be very keen to see the defender get meaningful minutes this season to show he’s good enough to be a Palace player moving forward.
