There’s been a great deal of buzz surrounding the purported breakdown in the relationship between Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp and winger Aaron Lennon. Many pundits have speculated that the 24-year-old has put in his last performance in a Spurs shirt and will be shipped out of White Hart Lane this summer.
Goal.com have gone as far as to suggest that Tottenham are willing to sell Lennon for around £15m when the transfer window re-opens. Harry Redknapp is thought to be disappointed with Lennon’s all round contribution this season, and it would seem that he has a point. Lennon has scored just three times this season in 42 appearances and his 8 assists have done little to counterbalance his lack of goals.
The Spurs boss is also believed to have lost patience with Lennon’s inability to follow orders. An unnamed Tottenham source told Goal.com:
“Harry feels Lennon is not learning, not improving and not listening to instructions… He has been really disappointed by Lennon’s performances since the first half of last season and does not believe he is as willing to run at the full-back as he should be.”
As far as I’m concerned, when a professional footballer reaches a point where he’s unwilling to listen to a manager, or merely doesn’t have the motivation to do as he’s asked, then there’s no point of him being at the club. If he’s not willing to do his utmost for the club that pays his wages, then it’s time he slung his hook.
Harry Redknapp and Aaron Lennon have been at each other’s throats for quite some time now. There were a couple of occasions where-in Lennon was forced to play on despite having picked up an injury (vs Stoke City October 2009 and vs West Ham in 2009) and you wouldn’t be surprised if Lennon felt a little resentment towards Redknapp. But for this to have bubbled under the surface for so long and for the ill-feeling to still be there smacks of immaturity.
Then of course came the ‘bust-up’ at the Bernabeu where Lennon withdrew his name from the team-sheet a mere five minutes before kick-off, claiming that he was too ill to play. In all likelihood the whole affair was a fuss over nothing, but given the stories now eminating from White Hart Lane, the Bernabeu affair is beginning to look like a sign of what was to come.
Given Lennon’s diminishing returns over the last couple of seasons, the time may well be right for Tottenham to cash-in on their winger. Whilst I doubt they’ll be able to get £15m for Lennon, if a club comes in with an offer of about £12m, I personally hope that Spurs bite their hand off. Such money could then be channelled as part of the deal for the Brazilian Hulk, who’s currently valued at around £20m.

I think he needs to move on. 15 mill would be lovely jubbly.
THERE ARE A LOT OF TIMES THAT LENNON WOULD MAKE ANY MANAGER BOIL OVER , AND AS FOR NOT PLAYING THE WAY HARRY WANTS HIM TO PLAY THIS IS QUITE NOTICABLE , LENNON RARELY TAKES ON THE DEFENDER WHO IS MARKING HIM HE CONTRIBUTES VERY LITTLE TO THE GAME AND THERE IS A LOT MORE TO HIS GAME THAT CAN BE INCREASED IF LENNON WOULD JUST EITHER LISTEN OR DO WHATS BEING ASKED OF HIM TO DO , BUT THIS IS NOT SAYING WE SHOULD GET SHOT OF HIM NO SIREE ! WE NEED LENNON AND LENNON NEEDS SPURS SO HARRY AND TINY TEARS GROW UP AND KISS AND MAKE UP SPURS CAN DO GREAT THINGS WITH THE BOTH OF YOU ON BOARD COYS ! ! !
1. This is bullsh**, he aint going nowhere
2. Why the fuck would any proper spurs fan consider selling the best right winger in the prem you f**ing pr***
What a reasoned response.
‘Best right winger in the prem’? – The likes of Walcott, Nasri, Nani, Valencia, Johnson and even Kuyt are more consistent players who have much more favorable statistics than Lennon.
You guys either cant be SPURS FANS or you dont watch the our matches, he has been one of our best players this year.
what i wanna say is that he is worth at least 20 mil for the speed he’s got.
