Time and time again Premiership sides shop abroad and come up trumps. The question I’d ask, however: how many more teams are going to pass up on Rangers goalkeeper Alan McGregor? Recently speculation has been rife as to who the Manchester United or Arsenal goalkeepers will be next season as clubs continue to overlook McGregor. With United in the running to sign David De Gea and Arsenal on the look out for a promising Keeper they could do worse than take a chance on the promising Scot.
Over the years Scottish football has had a host of excellent goalkeepers such as Jim Leighton, Andy Goram, Craig Gordon and Neil Sullivan to name but a few who have made their mark in the game. Then there is the old opinion of Scottish football being poor in quality. Recently Alan Pardew of Newcastle dismissed the Scottish League in the press and told the returning Fraser Foster that his efforts in Scotland meant for nothing as he falls back into 3rd choice goalkeeper behind Steve Harper and Tim Krul.
This season saw Foster concede only 22 goals in the entire league season and Pardew has dismissed his efforts. This leads to the question: why send him there? Newcastle would do well to have some of Fosters experience next season as they might want to shake off the relegation threat as they are no longer the team they think they are.
There have been many players who have left Scotland and made massive impacts down south in the past Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness immediately comes to mind, and a famous quote from Paul Gascoigne “Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it” speaks volumes of how difficult the league can be. In the past players have came to Scotland and have not made any great impact; even the gifted Juninho was limited to only a handful of starts when he made his move to Celtic.
Alan McGregor has been outstanding to say the least this season and Rangers fans will thank him for the penalty save against Gregor Samaras that all but clinched the title for the Ibrox side. The Scotland goalkeeper may see his future lie away from the Glasgow giants with rumours of Harry Redknapp preparing a 5 million pound bid which would be an absolute steal in this day and age.
Alan has stated he would like to be a Rangers player next season but Tottenham will turn his head with the possibility of trebling his current salary. The Spurs fans should be excited at the prospect of signing McGregor as he has stood out in Europe as much as the SPL and could be the answer to their problems in between the sticks next season.

I would guess he’s being overlooked due to his antics off the field. It’s the same reason Artur Boruc never got picked up a few years back. Great keeper, poor attitude.
