Now that Liverpool appear to have wrapped up a deal for long-term Arsenal target, Loic Remy, it’ll be interesting to see where Arsene Wenger looks next.
Whilst most Arsenal fans weren’t too keen on the fleet-footed Frenchman, I can’t help but feel that he could have done a good job at The Emirates. His playing style isn’t a million miles away from Thierry Henry’s, after all.
But it’s time to move on and to start considering other options. Maybe The Gunners can now wrap up a deal for long-term target, Mario Balotelli?
The Italian ace would certainly be a considerable improvement on Loic Remy. Whilst Balotelli isn’t quite as pacey as the Frenchman, he’s got more experience at the top level (despite only being 23-years-old), he’s got better technique, he’s physically stronger and he’s got an excellent goal-scoring record.
Since leaving Manchester City to join AC Milan two seasons ago, Balotelli has scored 30 goals in 54 games. Whilst Milan haven’t been at their best for the last couple of years, Super Mario continues to develop. Every season he’s looking better and better. Who knows how good he’ll get over the course of his next contract?
Perhaps this is why Arsene is interested him. He’s a player with a big future ahead of him. Better still, he’s already got Premier League experience in his locker.
What’s more, Milan seem curiously content to let him go for a reasonable price. According to The Mirror, The Gunners have made a £15.8m bid for the player, having already agreed personal terms (£160k-a-week, apparently). If this is true, then a deal may not be far away.
With Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud already plying their trade at The Emirates, Arsenal are starting to put together a formidable forward line-up. Whether it’s enough to earn them Premier League glory remains to be seen, but it’s certainly a good start.
What’s your take? Could The Gunners be about to wrap up a bargain deal for Mario Balotelli? Who else should they be looking at?
